How Do Channels Work? Who Does What?

Academic Channels

Academic Channel organizations pay a subscription fee permitting members to publish for free with no Preferred Editing.
Channel Admins (Academic Channels only) are responsible for updating the channel homepage and managing Channel Curators.
Channel Curators (Academic Channels only) ensure that articles submitted to your channel are within scope and adhere to Cureus author guidelines.
Channel Curators are positioned to assist authors in strengthening their manuscripts prior to the rigorous editorial review conducted by independent Cureus editors.
All Channel Admins and Channel Curators are vetted by the journal prior to being added to the channel.
The decision to publish or reject channel articles is made by independent Cureus editors, not Channel Curators or Channel Admins.

Academic (Non-subscription) Channels

Academic (Non-subscription) Channel organizations do not pay a subscription fee.
Articles can still be deferred for Preferred Editing with the author responsible for purchasing the editorial service.
Channel Screeners (Academic (Non-subscription) and Commercial Channels only) are responsible for checking new article submissions to ensure the author is eligible to submit through the channel and that the topic is within the channel’s scope.
All Channel Screeners are vetted by the journal prior to being added to the channel.
Channel Screeners have no further involvement with the article publication process.
The decision to publish or reject channel articles is made by independent Cureus editors.

Commercial Channels

Commercial Channel organizations pay a subscription fee permitting members to publish for free with no Preferred Editing.
Channel Screeners (Academic (Non-subscription) and Commercial Channels only) are responsible for checking new article submissions to ensure the author is eligible to submit through the channel and that the topic is within the channel’s scope.
All Channel Screeners are vetted by the journal prior to being added to the channel.
Channel Screeners have no further involvement with the article publication process.
